                                    Character and Paragraph Formatting

 

Objectives:

 

Getting more familiarized with

  1. Some Word basic components such as File Tab, Quick Access Toolbar, Title bar,

View buttons, Status bar, Home Tab (Clipboard, Font, Paragraph, Styles, Editing),

Insert Tab (Pages, Tables, Illustrations, Links, Header&Footer, Text, Symbols),

Page Layout Tab (Themes, Page Setup, Page Background, Paragraph, Arrange) and

View Tab (Document Views, Show/Hide, Zoom, Window, Macros)

  1. Some features of character and paragraph formatting, and
  2. Defining and applying Styles.

 

Steps.

  1. Download a student data file:
    • Open www.prenhall.com/exploring
    • Select Student Resources tab under Microsoft Office 2007 followed by Word Vol1, 2nd edition.
    • Select “save” button in the ensuing File Download Dialog box.
    • Open the downloaded zipped file and open chap2_ho1_Description_solution.
  2. Character Formatting.
    • Change Text Appearance
    • Insert Non-breaking Spaces (CTRL+SHIFT+SPACEBAR) and

Non-breaking Hyphens (CTRL+SHIFT+Hyphen)

  1. Paragraph Formatting
    • Continue on the file saved in step-2 above.
    • Set Tabs in a Footer
    • Specify Line Spacing, Justification and Pagination
    • Indent Text
    • Apply Borders and Shading
    • Change Column Structure
    • Save the result as project4b
  2. Applying and Defining Styles
    • Apply Style Properties
    • Create a Paragraph Style
    • Save the result as Project4C

 

Requirement:

Turn in your USB that contains the following three files inside the folder: COSC1371 as usual:

1. Project4A (Character Formatting)

2. Project4B (Paragraph Formatting)

3. Project4C (Applying and Defining Styles)
